Wor-Wic Community College, located in Salisbury, Maryland, offers a dental assistant program that prepares students for entry-level positions in the dental field. The program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) and is designed to provide students with a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on training.
The dental assistant program at Wor-Wic Community College is a two-year program that includes both academic coursework and clinical experiences. The first year of the program focuses on foundational knowledge and skills, such as dental anatomy, dental materials, and infection control. Students also have the opportunity to practice clinical skills in a simulated dental lab.
In the second year of the program, students continue to build upon their knowledge and skills through more advanced coursework and clinical experiences. Students learn about dental procedures, patient care, and dental office management.
Upon completion of the dental assistant program, graduates are eligible to take the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) certification exam. Certification is not required to work as a dental assistant in Maryland, but it may be required in other states. Certification can also increase job opportunities and earning potential.
