Scott Community College (SCC) offers a comprehensive Dental Assisting Program designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become competent dental assistants. The program is fully accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), ensuring that graduates receive a high-quality education that meets national standards.

The Dental Assisting Program at SCC is a full-time, 10-month program that consists of both classroom instruction and hands-on clinical experience. Students will learn about the basic sciences, dental materials, radiology, infection control, dental anatomy and terminology, and dental office management. In addition, students will receive practical experience in clinical settings where they will assist licensed dentists and hygienists with various procedures.

One of the unique features of SCC’s Dental Assisting Program is the availability of a state-of-the-art dental clinic on campus. This clinic allows students to gain practical experience in a real-world setting while working with patients under the supervision of licensed dental professionals. Additionally, the clinic provides affordable dental care to members of the community who might not have access to dental services otherwise.

To be eligible for admission to the Dental Assisting Program, applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and meet certain academic requirements. Students must also complete a physical examination, provide documentation of immunizations, and pass a criminal background check and drug screening.

Upon completion of the program, graduates will receive a Certificate in Dental Assisting and will be eligible to sit for the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) exam to become a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA). Graduates of SCC’s Dental Assisting Program have a high job placement rate and are well-prepared to begin successful careers as dental assistants in a variety of settings, including private practices, community health centers, and dental clinics.
