Pasco-Hernando Community College, now known as Pasco-Hernando State College, offers both a Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting program for students interested in pursuing a career in oral health.

The Dental Hygiene program is a two-year program that prepares students to become licensed dental hygienists. Students will learn about dental anatomy, radiography, oral pathology, and dental pharmacology. In addition to classroom learning, students will also gain hands-on experience in a clinical setting, working with patients to provide preventative care, oral health education, and therapeutic services. Graduates of the program are eligible to take the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination and state or regional clinical board examinations to become licensed dental hygienists.

The Dental Assisting program is a one-year program that prepares students to become certified dental assistants. Students will learn about dental anatomy, dental materials, dental radiography, and infection control. In addition to classroom learning, students will also gain hands-on experience in a clinical setting, working alongside dentists and hygienists to provide chair-side assistance, patient care, and office management. Graduates of the program are eligible to take the Dental Assisting National Board Examination and become certified dental assistants.

Both programs at Pasco-Hernando State College are accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and are designed to prepare students for a successful career in oral health. Graduates of the programs have gone on to work in private dental offices, community health clinics, and public health agencies. With a focus on both classroom learning and practical experience, students are well-equipped to enter the workforce and make a positive impact on their patients’ oral health.
