The Dental Assistant program at Norfolk Technical Center is designed to prepare students for a career as a dental assistant. This program provides students with both theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to assist dentists in a clinical setting.
The program is divided into two parts: classroom instruction and clinical practice. During the classroom instruction portion of the program, students learn about dental terminology, anatomy, and pharmacology, as well as dental office management and infection control.
In the clinical practice portion of the program, students apply what they have learned in the classroom in a hands-on setting. Students work alongside licensed dentists and dental hygienists, assisting in patient care and performing dental procedures under the supervision of the dental team.
Throughout the program, students will also gain valuable experience with dental equipment, such as dental x-ray machines, and learn about dental materials, such as fillings and crowns.
Upon completion of the program, graduates will have the knowledge and skills necessary to become a dental assistant. Graduates will also be prepared to take the Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) exam offered by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB).
Overall, the Dental Assistant program at Norfolk Technical Center provides students with a comprehensive education and hands-on training that prepares them for a rewarding career in the dental field.
