The program provides hands-on training in various dental procedures, including dental radiography, dental materials, and clinical procedures.

The MECC Dental Assistant program is a one-year program that consists of three semesters. The program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) and meets the educational requirements of the Virginia Board of Dentistry.

During the program, students will learn how to assist dentists during dental procedures, take and process dental radiographs, perform basic laboratory procedures, and manage dental office tasks such as scheduling appointments, maintaining patient records, and managing dental supplies. In addition, students will gain a thorough understanding of dental anatomy, dental terminology, and infection control protocols.

The MECC Dental Assistant program also provides students with the opportunity to gain real-world experience through clinical externship rotations at local dental offices and clinics. This practical training allows students to apply their knowledge and skills in a professional setting and gain valuable hands-on experience.

Upon completion of the program, graduates will be eligible to sit for the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) examination, which leads to certification as a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA). Graduates will also be qualified to work in various dental settings, including private dental practices, public health clinics, and dental schools.
