Harford Community College offers a Dental Assistant Program designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in the dental field. The program provides students with a solid foundation in the knowledge and skills necessary to work as dental assistants.

The program is divided into three parts: didactic, laboratory, and clinical. During the didactic portion, students learn about dental anatomy, radiology, pharmacology, and dental materials. In the laboratory section, students gain hands-on experience with dental instruments and techniques. Finally, in the clinical portion, students apply their knowledge and skills in a dental office setting, working with real patients under the supervision of licensed dentists.

The program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and takes approximately 11 months to complete. Graduates of the program are eligible to take the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) examination to become Certified Dental Assistants (CDAs). CDAs have a wider range of job opportunities, higher earning potential, and greater job security.

The program also includes an externship component, where students work in a dental office for a certain number of hours to gain further hands-on experience. This provides students with an opportunity to network with professionals in the field and potentially secure employment after graduation.

Overall, the Dental Assistant Program at Harford Community College is a comprehensive program that prepares students for successful careers in the dental field. With a strong emphasis on hands-on experience and practical skills, graduates of the program are well-equipped to begin working as dental assistants immediately after graduation.
