The Dental Assistant program at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in the dental field. This program provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to assist dentists in various clinical and administrative tasks.

The program consists of both classroom lectures and hands-on clinical experiences. Students will learn about dental anatomy and terminology, oral pathology, dental materials and instruments, infection control, and patient management. In addition, students will receive training in dental radiography and expanded functions, which include placing fillings and taking impressions.

To be eligible for the program, students must have a high school diploma or GED and complete prerequisite courses in English, math, and science. The program itself requires two semesters of full-time study, which includes both classroom lectures and clinical experiences. The clinical experiences take place at various dental clinics and offices throughout the Cleveland area.

Upon completion of the program, graduates are eligible to sit for the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) exam to become a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA). In addition, graduates may choose to pursue further education in dental hygiene or dental assisting.
